The safety of 19 million college students is a pressing issue for most parents, and for trustees of colleges and universities across the country. Parents consistently rank safety in the top 3 criteria in selecting a school.
Current solutions like calling 911, call boxes and human escorts all have serious deficiencies. Running to a blue light phone or waiting for off-campus authorities to respond are not good options for someone in trouble on campus.
Campus Guardian turns GPS-enabled cell phones into personal security devices for both students and staff. The solution dramatically improves response time to an incident by immediately notifying campus security when a button on the phone is pressed or a 911 call is placed, and showing the location of the caller on an enhanced campus map.
The campus security force becomes the first responder, which can dramatically improve response time to an incident, because they are within feet, not miles, of the caller’s location.
Campus Guardian has demonstrated a prototype live at a number of local universities and will begin beta testing in the first quarter of 2008. After watching a live demonstration of the system, the chief of security at a major university was very clear in his opinion – he said, “This will drive crime off my campus”. Other campus officials have said that availability of the Campus Guardian system at their university will be a differentiator in the selection of their school.
The company has been developing personal security products based on patents and trademarks issued to its founders.
